Toenail fungus is a notoriously difficult foe. Current treatment options include home remedies, topical therapies, oral medication, and laser treatment – but each nail fungus solution has its own set of caveats. Topical treatments and home cures are notoriously ineffective; oral medication carries the greatest risk of harm to the patient, and laser treatment (not covered by insurance) is expensive. Jublia is a new antifungal option that will hit the market later this year.
What Is Jublia?
Jublia® (efinaconazole 10% topical solution) is an FDA-approved topical antifungal developed to treat toenail fungus. The bottle comes with a built-in applicator for easy daily use. Unlike other topical remedies that can be messy and require patients to remove excess product, Jublia dries quickly. It also has an excellent safety profile, without the drug interaction and liver damage concerns of oral medications for toenail fungus. Marketing should begin later this year, according to manufacturer Valeant.
